Speaking Engagement!

Recently, Trish and I as Dress Your Digs gave a 45 minute presentation to the Women in Touch Group here in Lincoln.  TheWomen in Touch Group is part of the Women’s Ministries at College View Seventh Day Adventist Church, and the group is joyfully celebrating their 20th year in 2012!  Women in Touch meets monthly from October-December; February -May, and they have an average attendance of 350 ladies each month!  Wow!  That’s right, 350 ladies!  The evening consists of a  delicious buffet dinner, devotions, and then the speaker. (and that was us, as in Dress Your Digs in February!)  Women in Touch offers   a ”variety of programs that touch a woman’s heart socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Yep, Dress Your Digs fits the bill:  Our homes DO touch our hearts socially, emotionally, and spiritually.

We were contacted by this group (and invited to present) last summer following an article about Dress Your Digs in the August 2011. issues of L Magazine, Lincoln’s Premier Magazine.  We gladly accepted the invitation, and we were scheduled for February 2012.  We were told that their attendees were  women of all ages ranging from 18-80+, that about half were from their church, and the other half from the community. And…they wanted lots of tips for improving their homes!

And so, Trish and I had about six months to consider what we would present, and how we would present it.  We knew we would be a Power Point.  (More on the content shortly!)

The two of us  went to the church to check things out a few weeks ahead of the scheduled event, and became even more excited to see the beautiful facility.  A room holding 350 ladies, all seated  at round tables is a very LARGE room indeed. (below)

The room has a stage with  a huge pull-down screen. (above) (On presentation day, believe me it was a thrill for us to see our photos, and especially our Dress Your Digs logo on the Big Screen! Just wish I had taken a picture of that GIANT logo!)  Just picture THIS:

Oh yeh,  it was larger than life.

Now that we had the place pictured in our minds ,it was  BACK TO WORK on our presentation.

We decided to organize our  presentation in the same way that we actually tackle a Digs job:

1) Prep Work (establish function of room; de-clutter;)

2) Big Stuff (furniture: shopping your house, re-purposing furniture)

3) Little Stuff (Lamps, accessories, art, shopping your house, re-purposing…styling!)

All of the slides used (150+) to illustrate our points were from our own jobs.

During the afternoon setup in preparation for the evening event, Trish and I “Dressed the Digs” on either side of the stage, using chairs and side tables found “shopping” their facility, styled with accessories that we brought.  We thought it sort of “set the stage” and created atmosphere that went along with our presentation.

The evening went well, dinner delicious, our presentation (other than a fairly serious case of the jitters) came off without a hitch. We ended the presentation with our “Top Three Tips"  for quick and easy ways to make changes in your home.

Our hallway display stayed true to our “Your stuff, Your style” motto: We re-purposed items for use as pamphlet holders, business card trays, etc.

Trish and I had a great time preparing for, and presenting to, these ladies. They are an impressive, kind, and FUN group! We are grateful for the opportunity they gave us in their invitation!  Thank you  College View Seventh Day Adventists ladies!  We truly hope you were inspired to fall in love with your homes all over again!

And now…we’re ready to give some more presentations!

We can present to your group for 10 minutes, or for 1 hour, and anything in-between!  Whether you have 350 ladies…or 10!
